What is Financial Frontlines?

Financial Frontlines is an online financial education platform from the Florida Department of Financial Services. Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jeff Atwater and his team have made financial education for military Service Members and Veterans a priority.

Financial Frontlines is one of two platforms they’ve designed specifically to achieve that goal to help military families; the other is called Serve, Save, Succeed. Both programs are part of a larger financial education website for all Floridians called Your Money Matter$.

3 Frontlines features to note

#1: Resource Guide

The Financial Frontlines Resource Guide is the cornerstone of the whole program. It’s a also a start-to-finish guide to finance done right for a Service Member or Veteran. It starts with basic budgeting and credit building, integrated with tips specific for military households. It provides a full list helpful debt relief options available to Service Members and Veterans. You also get helpful guidance on how to avoid predatory lending scams and identity theft.

Finally, there’s in-depth information for 2 key areas:

  1. A guide to relevant military financial regulations, specifically the Military Lending Act and Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. These pieces of legislation are critical for any Service Member or Veteran who seeks financing or has debt to repay.
  2. A comprehensive guide to continuing education for anyone who’s served in the military. This can help you avoid or minimize student loan debt that’s become notorious holding American households back from stability.

#2: Tip Sheets

The resource guide teaches you everything you need to know, but it’s also 37 pages. Understanding that you may not always have time to devote to financial education, Financial Frontlines created five Tip Sheets. These pages provide easy quickstart guides on five essential financial topics, with features like helpful reference charts.

The following Tip Sheets are currently available for PDF download:

#3: Videos

If you’re more of a visual learner, Financial Frontlines also breaks down five key topics in a series of free on-demand webinars that you can watch anytime. The videos run anywhere from 10-20 minutes. These videos run with Adobe Captiva, which is a flash-based program; we recommend that you use Internet Explorer to watch them.
